With urban populations increasing, the built
space expands, putting pressure on public
spaces. To address this, nature-based solutions
are seen as key elements to enhance the declining
natural capital in public spaces. However,
their impact on liveability remains uncertain.
This research investigates how nature-based
solutions can enhance liveability in a densifying
city. The study employs a systematic literature
review, spatial mapping, nature-based solution
analysis, and policy review. A Relation Matrix
highlights the relations between ecosystem
services and indicators. The outcome is a
Decision Support Framework that guides urban
planners in applying nature-based solutions for
enhanced liveability. This framework is applied
to develop a city strategy for Eindhoven and two
masterplans for the Jagershoef neighbourhood:
one with a low density approach and one
with a high density approach. Overall, this
research offers valuable insights and tools for
urban planners and policymakers. The Decision
Support Framework can be used by designers for
the decision on the implementation of the right
nature-based solutions in their plan to improve
liveability.
